The overall goal of the 'Knowledge Building' webinar series is to provide easy accessible training on Structured Literacy and the Science of Reading. This is very important because both of these approaches are not taught in teacher education programs. There is a great need for people to have both content understanding of and teaching strategies for Structured Literacy and Science of Reading. We know from the Ontario Human Rights Commission Right to Read Inquiry that teacher education is a missing piece for successful remediation of struggling readers as well as those with dyslexia / language-based learning disability. And we know: 'What is necessary teaching for some is good teaching for all.'
The webinar series will grow over time and suggestions for topics are welcome.
Please note that all webinars are real-time live teaching and are not recorded.
This is the first webinar in the series and provides a foundation in the basic concepts of 'Structured Literacy' and 'Science of Reading'. Over the total hours of the webinar, the definitions and overview of each concept will be reviewed as well as application to teaching practice.
