Structured Literacy (SL) Dyslexia Interventionist

What is SL Dyslexia Interventionist?

The Center for Effective Reading Instruction defines a 'Structured Literacy Dyslexia Specialist' as a person who provide targeted or intensive reading intervention services to individuals and small groups where the primary need is in decoding.

This level of training provides deeper literacy learning in both language and structure as well as instructional strategies.  The dyslexic profile is studied in detail.  Practical applications of lesson planning and student support are all studied through the lens of students needing intervention.

Training Details

This 35-hour training is aligned with the IDA's Knowledge and Practice Standards for Teachers of Reading.  The emphasis is on deepening knowledge and practices and applying these to the dyslexic profile and students in need of extensive remediation and intervention.

After fulfilling all requirements, each participant will receive a certificate of completion for the training hours.

Pre-Requisite: Structured Literacy training.

Trainees may continue their SL Dyslexia Interventionist learning by choosing the following:

-Practicum/Fieldwork.  The Practicum is an average of 24-36 weeks of supervised teaching, including the submission of three formal observations.  The experience involves in-depth review, with feedback, of lesson plans, teaching strategy, and mentoring.  It is arranged, at an additional fee, subsequent to the successful completion of the coursework.  Trainees may then submit, after fulfilling all requirements, an alternative application to the Center for Effective Reading Instruction to be a SL Dyslexia Interventionist.
